A lost dog named Fatboy

Yesterday morning when we were driving home, after I had dropped the kids off at school and picked Tim up from work, we found a lost dog. He is a brown and white pitbull. He didn't have any tags, but we didn't want to leave him in the street, especially since it has been so cold and rainy lately. After driving around for awhile to see if we would find someone looking for him, we took him home and put up lost dog signs. Then in the afternoon, I went to the nearest vet and had him scanned for a microchip. He came back as having a Ft Huachuca address, which is like 100 miles away. The phone numbers listed were out of service. But we did learn his name... Fatboy! How funny, he fit right in with Harley (for those of you who don't know, a Fatboy is a type of Harley motorcycle). So, again we brought him home. Then, this morning I called everywhere I could think of trying to see if anyone was trying to find him. I called the vet on base, since the last address was a military base... and they remembered him! But, unfortunately he wasn't in the computer and they couldn't remember his owners name. They thought that the owner might be stationed in Korea and that friends were watching him. Another dead end. Then, his owner called. Her son saw the sign when he was walking to school. It turns out, the dog was rescued from his original owners out in Ft Huachuca (who had abused him). The owners live really close to us, and are both in the military. The husband is in Korea, and the wife and 3 sons live here. The youngest son is even in 1st grade at Kailey's school. They changed his name to Angus, but we still like Fatboy. LOL! They were so happy that we took such good care of him. The owner told us that when she called the Animal Control, that she was told that since he was a pitbull, if he had been turned in he would most likely have been euthanized within 3 days. That is what we were afraid of, which is why we kept him for 2 days. A good thing that came out of the whole experience, was that we needed to update Harley's chip information... it was just not something we had thought of. So, if you have a pet and have moved, make sure to update the chip!
